ITM 109 Drawing

Course description:

This course is designed to give students insight into drawing and sketching techniques and develop a frame of mind conducive to successful drawing. Students will gain a greater confidence in their abilities while deepening their perceptions.

Learning outcome:

On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Use right-brain cognition to perceive objects as they are in space in order to draw more accurately
  • Perceive and transcribe edges, spaces, relationships, lights and shadow
  • Use drawing tools for varying levels of value, and be able to use numerous shading techniques
  • Create working sketches and thumbnail drawings for graphics and illustration projects

Expectations:        

  • Students are expected to attend class on time and actively participate in class discussions
  • Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the due date
  • Late assignments are marked 50%
  • Cellular phones and pagers must be turned off
  • Students are expected to read the material in advance of coming to class to facilitate learning

Evaluation:

Attendance/Participation 10%, In class assignments (10% per class) 40%, Homework Assignment (2 at 15%) 30%, Homework Assignment 3, 20%

A requirement of 60% in all areas is to be achieved for certificate / 70% for diploma
