COM 207 Translation Korean/English

Course description: 

In this course students will be introduced to the essentials of translation theory and techniques as well as the professional requirements and opportunities.

 

They will practice analyzing and comprehending selected texts from a variety of current topics, including information technology, political news, business, social issues, etc., while being offered guidance and critique.

 

Students will also become more familiar with the basic rules and regulations of the Korean language. They are required to complete regular weekly translation assignments.

Lecture-discussion; workshop observations; demonstrations; practice

Students will be able to:

  • Complete short translations from Korean to English and from English to Korean
  • Understand career opportunities in the field of translation
  • Discover levels of aptitude and potential achievement in the field

Passing grade:

If this is a core course in your diploma, 70% in overall evaluation is a passing grade. If this is a core course in your certificate, 60% in overall evaluation is a passing grade. If this is an elective course in your program of study, 50% in overall evaluation is a passing grade.

Prerequisite courses or equivalent knowledge:

College level proficiency in English; native knowledge of Korean
