This course introduces students to both consecutive interpretation and translation.
Interpretation: This part of the course begins with the practice of memory training after which students progress to note taking. In due course, students become more adept at handling longer and increasingly difficult passages. Students are taught the skill of persuasive and effective delivery. Course material deals with a variety of topics and follows a progression from general to more technical texts. The course work offers extensive practice in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Translation: Research and translation assignments are given as homework in each class so that students can build a terminology base and reinforce their knowledge of specific subjects. All course work is based upon authentic materials extracted from newspapers, journals, magazines and speeches. Topics are selected for their relevance to the translation profession. |
