Course description:

Methodology:

This course is designed for intermediate to advanced level students who want to improve their speaking, listening, writing and critical thinking skills as related to english for business purposes.

The themes and related activities focus on developing the communication skills that every professional needs to succeed in today's global business environment. 

 

The course content is delivered through lectures, combined with student-centred activities such as discussions, brainstorming activities, critical thinking exercises, reading comprehension tasks,  and various homework assignments

Learner outcome:

Students will be able to:

  • Identify the attitudes and practices of successful managers
  • Discuss management qualities and styles
  • Make people feel at ease
  • Analyze the pros and cons of takeovers and mergers
  • Predict future trends in products and services
  • Develop techniques to change customer needs
  • Summarize main points in a presentation
  • Remedy communication breakdowns
  • Build language skills in the following contexts: using antecedents carefully; acquiring vocabulary within the context of management qualities; acquiring vocabulary used in describing takeovers and mergers; interpreting and writing newspapers headlines; expressing predictions correctly and succinctly
