Course description:

Methodology:

Covers the Canadian legal principles and framework, torts and contracts, contractual relationships, sales and consumer protection, priority of creditors, types of ownerships, insurance considerations, corporations and real properties, environmental consideration in law.

The course is delivered in a structured classroom setting consisting of lectures, case studies, videos and in-class activities.

The activities include group discussions, and assigned presentations. There is a high expectation of additional homework for preparation and assignment completion.

The ability to work in teams and communicate effectively is important in business. You will undertake assignments in teams and make a presentation on related topics to your class collegues.

Course Outcomes:

On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

    1. Understand the principles of contract law

    2. Have good comprehension of the Canadian legal framework

    3. Relate legal concepts to business management

Prerequisite courses or equivalent knowledge:

Completion of the Foundations program or demonstration of equivalent skills.

Evaluation:

Attendance 15%, Case Studies (2) 30%, Presentation Topics (1) 15%, Final Exam 40%

Passing grade: 60% of all certificate and diploma students except university transfer students whom should obtain 70%. Lesser grades may be acceptable for UT students if the overall average is 70%.
