|
This course provides the student with an understanding of the function of the finance department, the process of controlling financial operations. The importance of the accounting statements and how management utilizes management accounting to understand compare and control the organization. We look at the budgeting process and how budgeting benefits the organization. We explore how government helps promote business and economic activity. We explain why countries trade with one another and describe the major business barriers to international trade.

The course is delivered in a structured classroom setting consisting primarily of lectures and in-class activities. The activities include group discussions and assigned presentations. There is a high expectation of additional homework for preparation and assignment completion. |

- Identify the three major functions of the finance manager.
- Explain the meaning of cash flow and prepare a cash budget for a new business.
- Explain the purpose of an accounting system and why financial statements are essential to an organization.
- Explain the function of the majors accounting statements.
- Identify the most common financial ratios and how they are used as a control.
- Understand the importance of financing and the options available.
- Explain tariff and non tariff barriers to trade.
- Identify controls and reason for competition legislation.
- Recognize why trade with Pacific Rim countries is becoming important.
- Explain the basic concepts underlying international finance and how currency fluctuations can cause problems in a countries economy.
